Hi, I’m Mark Pietersen, the traveller behind Mark’s Wanderlust, and I’m from the Netherlands.
I live in Alkmaar, a city in the north of the country.
Almost 21 years ago, I made a decision that changed everything.
I was out with friends again, doing what I had done so many times before,
and I realised I wanted something different. More freedom. More adventure. More of the world.
So I stopped spending money on going out, started saving, and booked my first solo trip to Thailand.
Since then, I have travelled to more than 40 countries,
stayed in over 168 accommodations, and taken more than 62 flights.
And the best part? My passion for travel only keeps growing.
For me, travel is not only about destinations. It is about people, stories, culture, and experiences.
I have met amazing people across the world and made memories that will stay with me for life.
This is my journey — and there is a lot more still to come.
